ISEG MBA: Developing leaders for uncertain scenarios

MBA 01

Professor José Veríssimo reflects on the challenges of developing leaders in a context of uncertainty

Professor José Manuel Veríssimo, Executive Director of the ISEG MBA, was interviewed by Executive Digest on the evolution of leadership and the role of executive education in a context characterised by uncertainty, technological transformation and the growing complexity of decision-making.

Throughout the interview, he highlights how MBA programmes have been evolving to meet current demands, taking on a role that goes beyond the mere transfer of technical knowledge. Adaptability, emotional maturity, decision-making in ambiguous scenarios and the integration of management and technology are now essential skills for leaders.

The conversation also touches on some of the distinctive experiences offered by the ISEG MBA, such as the immersion programme in Silicon Valley and the module at the Air Force Academy experiences designed to challenge perspectives and develop leadership skills in demanding contexts.

Another key theme is the growing importance of technological literacy in strategic decision-making, underscoring the need to train leaders capable of understanding and integrating areas such as artificial intelligence, automation and data analysis.

Throughout its more than four decades of existence, the ISEG MBA has remained committed to preparing leaders capable of responding to today’s challenges through an approach that combines knowledge, experience and personal development.
